Turning post-consumer bottles into printer filament
A closed loop inside the G3D facility: recovered PET bottles sorted, washed, shredded, dried and extruded into 1.75 mm filament, then printed on G3D machines.
Client: G3D — internal development
Details
Filament bought from outside is a datasheet G3D cannot verify. Recycled feedstock is worse: batch to batch it varies in moisture, colour and additive content, and PET is hygroscopic.
Solution
G3D built the whole chain in-house — shredding, drying, extrusion with closed-loop diameter control, spooling and a test print per batch. Drying is treated as a mandatory stage, not an optional one.
Results
Every spool G3D sells is traced to a batch that was measured and printed, not assumed. The line is running; throughput figures are being collected and are not published yet.
